Advanced Belts begin at purple belts and work their way up to blue and red. The advanced belts have a more advanced curriculum and focus on greater details and more difficult techniques as the students begin their preparation for the advanced belts.
Once a student earns their purple belt, they begin the advanced program. Requirements change and curriculums become more difficult at this stage. The students will still review the basics taught in the basic program, but they will start learning more advance techniques, self defense, and forms. This is where they will start weapons and sparring training as well. Sparring is the introduction to using their martial arts skills in a controlled environment. No head contact is allowed for students under the age of 18 and they are instructed to control their power and more use it as a game of tag with their partners. Safety is stressed throughout the sparring classes. They will work very hard but will also have a lot of fun.
Weapons is also an added piece to the advanced belts. Here at H & H Karate, we teach 3 weapons on a one month rotation; bo staff, nunchucks and escrima sticks. Students are encouraged to bring their own weapons if they have them to every class, with the exception of forms night. Almost every class (other than forms) we will spend a portion of the end of class working with these weapons. Graduations are held every four months at this level, and the advanced program will take the student all the way through red belt. After reaching their brown belt, students will begin a new journey on their way to black belt by starting in the brown and black stripe belt program.
